MY SHADOW

What is this shape on the ground,
Which looks quite like me,
Always somewhere me it’s around,
And is as dark as it can be,

Sometimes it is thin and tall,
Sometimes short and fat,
It seems scared of nobody at all,
Scares it not even the black cat,

I think it follows me for fun,
How very afraid of it I feel,
Even if for miles from it I run,
It is always at my heels,

Don’t be so scared of it dear Lynn,
My mother always says,
Think of it as your own twin,
Which with you forever stays,

My mother is always right,
So I think her advice I’ll follow,
Next time, my grey-floored twin won’t give me a fright,
No, but I can’t yet guarantee anything when it comes to my shadow!
