SILLY SUPERSTITIONS

Does a black cat crossing your path,
Bring you misfortune, really?
Or is it not just a false belief,
Indicating that we are being quite silly,

And what do you think about split salt,
Of bad luck is it the delivery man?
YOU, can’t change your destiny or fate,
But, granules of salt can?

Haven’t you ever heard the proverb,
‘What you sow, shall you reap,’
And yet in such silly superstitions,
Do you think your belief you should keep?

Your bad luck and your misfortune,
Only depend upon you what you do,
Cause harm to others and no matter what,
Karma will never fail to get you,

Think before you act,
And I’ll tell you a fact,
If you harm none and be considerate,
No silly superstition will ever alter your fate!

FINGERS’ SKETCH-BALL POINT PEN

This is a simple sketch of the peace sign which I had held up in front of me in order to sketch this. The best part is the shape of all the fingers and the fact that it has been done with a ball point pen!!!

WOODEN CHEST – WITH PAPER

This is a really simple craft that’s been made with materials easily available at home – old newspaper, acrylic paints, scale/a pair of scissors and glue.

Take sheets of old newspaper and make sticks out of them of the same thickness and same length. Take another sheet of newspaper, cut it into a rectangular shape and paste all the sticks onto it.
While the glue is still wet, put the paper (on which you stuck the sticks) around a bottle or any cylindrical object so that when it dries, it will obtain that shape. Leave it to dry.
Meanwhile, start flattening the remaining sticks and stick them together in such a way that it should look like a oval shaped disk. Make two of these.
Make the rose-shaped knobs and lock using paper and toothpicks. Paint them accordingly. Leave them to dry.
Once the chest has dried stick the paper disks at the two open ends of the chest and paint it with dark brown acrylic paint. Leave it to dry.

This is a simple colour-pencil sketch of a copper utensil called Tambya in Marathi. Nothing much to say except that the shading of the different colours play a major role in making the Tambya look realistic!!!

DIY HOME DECOR WALL HANGING – ECO-FRIENDLY GANESHA

This is a DIY Home Décor Wall Hanging of Lord Ganesh (Ganapati Bappa) made most importantly with home-recycled-old notebook-paper, a small amount of white cement (optional), acrylic paints (Pidilite preferably, if available easily) and hot glue gun/super glue ( Fevikwik preferably).

Steps for making the DIY Home Décor Wall Hanging of Lord Ganesh:

Make a good amount of the old and used notebook paper paste (for this craft, try to make the paper paste as fine as possible). Take a sheet of plastic, rubber or even a piece of cardboard and a put a lump of the paste onto it. Mold it into the shape of side ways facing head of Lord Ganesh as shown in the above image of the craft project. Adjust the size of the shape according to your opinion.
Once it is properly molded, try to smoothen the top surface as much as possible and carefully soak access water with a piece of cloth. Leave it to dry in the sun for at least a day. Meanwhile, take another sheet of plastic, rubber or cardboard and put another (little bigger than the previous one) lump of the paste onto it. Mold this into a shape that closely resemble the Peepal leaf (Ficus religiosa or sacred fig leaf). Follow the same steps as you followed for Lord Ganesha’s side facing head.
Once both the objects have dried, you can make a paste of white cement and apply a layer of it on the surface if it of the objects isn’t smooth enough OR you can paint the leaf and Lord Ganesha’s side facing head shape (you can paint your own color combination according to your choice) using acrylic paints as shown in the above image. Leave it to dry.
Finally, take your hot glue gun or super glue and stick the Lord Ganesha’s side facing head shape onto the leaf shape and leave to dry. The DIY HOME DECOR WALL HANGING of ECO-FRIENDLY GANESHA is ready!!!

DIY HOME DECOR WALL HANGING- COLOURS AND PENCIL SHAVINGS

This is another pretty DIY Home Décor Wall Hanging made with simple materials that can be easily found at home – pencil shavings, acrylic paints (black and silver), the lid of an old cardboard box, pencil, eraser, scale and glue.

Take the pencil shavings of colouring pencils and keep them aside. Then, take the lid of the cardboard box and paint it with black acrylic paint. Leave it to dry.
Use your pencil and scale to draw a border. Then, draw a a rough tree as shown above image. Take your silver acrylic paint and outline the tree and the border. Leave it to dry.
Take the pencil shavings and glue them to the surface (where you have drawn your tree and border) according to the design or colours you want to use. Leave it to dry.

A TOPSY-TURVY EARTHQUAKE

Once upon a time,
Arrived a huge earthquake,
Which made me and my house,
Bounce about and shake,

It lasted for an hour,
Then it lost its power,
But that was quite enough,
For my house to flip over,

When I entered my house,
The sight made my jaw drop,
For the ceiling, fans and lights were on the floor,
While the tiled floor was on the top,

Stupefied at the scene,
My room I rushed to see,
Like a chandelier, hung my bed from the ceiling,
And my cupboard was far from where it used to be,

All the rooms I hurried through,
But it felt as though they were new,
Blankly, I had a seat on the ceiling,
Wondering if I was dreaming,

Suddenly everything started to shake,
And someone violently shook me awake,
Opened my eyes, I saw my mother and she said,
“You fell asleep reading about an earthquake!”

DIY HOME DECOR WALL HANGING- CLAY AND COLOURS

This is a beautiful DIY Home Décor Wall Hanging made with simple materials- PlayDoh/Air Drying Clay/modelling clay, Fevikwik/any other super glue, Fevicryl acrylic paints/acrylic paints and a piece of strong cardboard/thermocol sheet/wooden sheet of about 24.5cm× 21.5cm (or your preferred size).

Cut the rectangle cardboard into two parts as triangles as shown in the above image and paint them with black acrylic paint (Pidilite preferably). Leave it to dry for about half an hour.
Meanwhile, take the modelling clay and mould it into flowers, leaves and any other decorative shape as per your choice using either hands (preferably) or stencils.
Take the two triangular cardboard pieces and stick the flowers, leaves, etc. made of modelling clay onto the cardboard firmly using superglue (as shown above). Leave it to dry for approximately an hour.
Finally, paint the flowers, leaves, etc. made of modelling clay. I suggest giving the clay a coat of white paint and then use Fevicryl acrylic paint (or any other acrylic paints that you have easily available) and leave it to dry for another hour. The DIY Home Décor Wall Hanging is ready!

DIY HOME DECOR – COLOURFUL KNITTED WALL HANGING

This is a very colorful home décor wall hanging made mostly out of knitting. Materials required are newspaper sheet (or any circular rim as per the size you require), acrylic paints (preferably Pidilite), hot glue or Fevicol, different colored wools- green, dark green, yellow, pink, purple, orange and black.

Take a circular rim and paint it with black acrylic paint and leave it to dry OR take the newspaper sheet and make a stick out of it. Take the two ends of your newspaper stick and join them using glue. Then make the stick curve and adjust it according to the shape of a circle. Paint the newspaper stick circle black using acrylic paint.
Take black wool (or any color wool and dip it in black paint and leave it to dry) and cut strings according to your circular rim, as shown in the above image attach the strings in a crisscross pattern.
Take your different colored wool and start making flowers and leaves out of it. To make the stem, take your dark green wool and cast on 3 stitches on your knitting needle and simple continue knitting the 3 stitches till it reaches such length where you can wrap the stem around your circular rim. 4. After you finish knitting leaves, flowers and stem. Wrap the stem around the circular rim as shown in the above image and stick it firmly using Fevicol or hot glue. Then take your leaves and flowers and stick them firmly using hot glue on the net created by the crisscross of the black wool. Leave it to dry.

DIY HOME DECOR – FLOWER WALL HANGING

This is a DIY Home Décor Wall Hanging made with barbeque sticks, craft paper, Fevicryl Pearl Paint (set of 6 paint bottles) and hot glue or normal glue (preferably Fevicol).

Take 8 barbeque sticks and paint them pearl black with Fevicryl Paint or normal black acrylic paint.
Make flowers and leaves with colorful craft papers (use color papers depending on the background you are going to use for this wall hanging. If you want the flowers to look more attractive, use Fevicryl Pearl Paints to give the flowers a coat of paint. Leave them to dry.
Meanwhile, take the barbeque sticks (by now they would have dried) and arrange them in the pattern shown in the image above and stick the sticks properly using hot glue or normal glue (preferably Fevicol).
Lastly, glue the flowers and leaves in a cluster in the centre of the barbeque sticks structure. Leave it to dry about 30 mins.

SPECIAL PAINTING- THE NIGHT VIEW

This is a special painting done by a good friend and teammate- Megha. This is a painting of the beautiful night sky with the silhouette of natural landscape. The best part of this painting is the beautiful way in which all the colors in the night sky have been brought out along the white spots giving the starry effect and the way in which the silhouette of the tree and landscape goes along with it all!!!

BEST OUT OF WASTE + SHAMPOO BOTTLES MAKEOVER

These are two empty shampoo bottles which have been given a makeover as a best out of waste items. Materials required are – acrylic paints (Pidilite), glue, craft paper/ pieces of cloth, old plastic jar lids and decorative material (optional).

Take the caps off the empty shampoo bottle(s) and cut the bottle(s) in such a way that the hollow part is levelled at the bottom.
Take the craft paper/ piece of cloth and wrap it around the bottle(s) seeing that it covers about half of the bottle(s). At the front side make a collar shape so that it looks like a coat and stick the ‘coat(s)’ neatly around the bottle(s). In case of the man shown above, a tie is included which has to be made and stuck before making the coat.
Paint the remaining half of the bottle(s) using acrylic paint – peach/ peach mixed with a bit of brown to make proper skin color. Let the color dry up completely. Paint the face(s) on the bottle(s) using black, white and red (notice the slight pink painted on the cheeks, as eye shadow and on the lips, in the case of the female character.)
Take black, brown or whichever other color you wish to paint the hair with and paint it on the top of the bottle(s) ( again, in case of the female character paint the hair all along the back of the bottle and in the front. For the male character, paint the hair in a neat decrease at the backside of the bottle.)
Lastly, make the hats using the old plastic jar lids and decorative material (optional). Take the jar lid(s) and attach a ring of craft paper / cover it with a piece of cloth and stick it properly using glue. Give a coat of paint to make it look like a actual hat. Use the decorative material to decorate the hat(s).

The best part of this craft is that it looks quite funny, good and can be used as puppets or even as home decor.

SHADED-LADY

This is another drawing done without ideas from Google. Not much to say about this drawing…. The best part of this composition is the effect given by the hair and the overall shading done as intended!!!

NEWSPAPER MOTORBIKE

This is an old-fashioned motorbike made from old newspaper rolls, paint and glue. It is very simple to make with all you have to do is roll strips of the old newspaper in different shapes for different parts( I suggest taking wide strips especially for the tires of the motorbike so it will be able to stand upright) of the motorbike (as shown in the above image) and glue them together as different parts of the motorbike. Lastly, once the glue has dried, paint the motorbike with acrylic paint (I suggest using Pidilite or Camlin paints) of your choice. The best part of this craft is that it is easy to make, doesn’t take much time and looks quite good to keep as home décor item/ showpiece.

REALISTIC COLOURFUL BIRD

This a type of realistic drawing of a small bird. The idea was taken from a Youtube channel – 3D Art 4 You. There isn’t much to say about this drawing…. The best part of this artwork is that it looks vibrant and realistic, just what it was intended to look like!!!

DIY HOME DECOR WALL HANGING – NATURE IS BEAUTIFUL!

This another Diy Wall Hanging Craft made from simple materials (mostly available at home) – cardboard, acrylic paints ( Pidilite preferably), thumbnail pins, glue, pencil and an eraser.

Draw a heart shape on the cardboard with a pencil or a marker and cut it out and paint it with Fevicryl Pearl Black Paint. Draw a border of about 2 cm from the outline.
Mark points on the border and near the outline and insert the thumbnail pins into the cardboard on the the points (I suggest putting a spot of glue where the thumbnail pins ae inserted). Paint the tops of the thumbnail pins with a shiny golden-orange acrylic color.
Write a short quote or saying or just ” NATURE IS BEAUTIFUL” and decorate it accordingly. Paint attractive flowers and leaves to go along with it and leave it to dry.
Lastly add a few finishing touches such as hooks or a string for hanging it on a wall and your wall hanging is ready!!!

PAPER QUILLING MACAW PARROT

Here is another paper quilling craft- Macaw Parrot! The materials required are – set of paper quilling strips, glue ( Fevicol) and a bit of practice and patience. There isn’t much to say other than this is just a fun craft or fun activity you can do when bored- keeps you busy and looks good too!!!

MADHUBANI ON RECYCLED PAPER

This another beautiful Madhubani styled painting done on recycled notebook paper. Painted with acrylics, this is a painting of the Sun God or Lord Surya in the tribal art of Madhubani. Traditionally, there aren’t many colors usually used in Madhubani paintings since the tribals used made from vegetables, fruits and other natural plant dyes. Thus, in this painting, I have painted Lord Surya using only white and red paint along with black for outline whereas, the background in chrome yellow with streaks of yellow ochre. The best part about this painting is the combination of all colors giving the intended effect!!!
